With the EQS luxury sedan and the sportier EQE business sedan, Mercedes-Benz has also entered a new, all-electric era in the upper market segments. Now the EQS SUV (with up to seven seats) follows as the third model series based on the architecture developed for electric vehicles.

EQS SUV with the wheelbase of the EQS sedan

The new EQS SUV shares the long wheelbase (3,210 millimeters) with the EQS sedan, but is over 20 centimeters higher than the latter. The dimensions in detail: 5,125/1,959/1,718 millimeters (length/width2/height as a 5-seater). The interior dimensions benefit from these generous SUV dimensions and the advantages of the purpose design tailored to the electric platform. The second row of seats can be adjusted electrically as standard. Up to four golf bags fit in the trunk. A third row of seats with two additional individual seats is available as an option, as well as comprehensive comfort equipment for all passengers.

Electric powertrain eATS

All EQS SUVs have an electric drive train (eATS) on the rear axle, the versions with 4MATIC also have an eATS on the front axle. In the 4MATIC models, the Torque Shift function ensures intelligent, stepless distribution of the drive torque between the rear and the front electric motor and thus the use of the most efficient eATS in each case. The electric motors on the front and rear axles are permanently excited synchronous machines (PSM). The advantages of this design include high power density, high efficiency and high performance consistency.

The chassis of the new EQS SUV has a four-link axle at the front and a multi-link axle at the rear. The AIRMATIC air suspension with continuously adjustable damping ADS+ is standard. The vehicle level can be raised by several centimetres. In addition to the DYNAMIC SELECT programs ECO, COMFORT, SPORT and INDIVIDUAL, the 4MATIC versions have an additional OFFROAD program for driving off-road. Rear-axle steering with a steering angle of up to 4.5 degrees is also standard. It ensures a lot of maneuverability in the city and agility over the country. A version with a steering angle of up to 10 degrees is available as an option and also via an OTA update.

Principles of integral safety apply

The principles of integral safety, especially accident safety, apply regardless of the platform. Like all other Mercedes-Benz models, the EQS SUV therefore has a rigid passenger cell, special deformation zones and modern restraint systems. The European version of the EQS SUV is the first Mercedes-Benz model to recognize whether the rear seats are actually occupied. If a passenger is not buckled in the back, the driver receives a specific message. Also new at Mercedes-Benz is the so-called person presence reminder. This system can alert you to children who may have been left in the rear of the vehicle. The reminder is on board as standard in vehicles for Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

Sound system Dolby Atmos in the EQS SUV

The Dolby Atmos sound system takes the audio experience in the EQS SUV to a new level. Individual instruments or voices in the studio mix can be placed around the listening area. A new type of sound animation is thus possible: Because while conventional stereo systems usually have left-right dynamics, Dolby Atmos can use the entire range and create a 360-degree experience.
